Gestalt psychology provided with the organizing principle for Gestalt therapy as an integrating framework. Gestalt refers to the configuration or pattern of a set of elements. Gestalt psychologists believe that organisms instinctively perceive whole patterns and not bits and pieces. Whole patterns have characteristics that cannot be gleaned by analyzing parts. Perception is an active process and not a result of passively received stimulation of sense organs. All situations are believed to possess inherent organization. Organisms have the capacity for accurate perception when they use their native ability of immediate experience in the here and now. The task of phenomenological research and therapy is to utilize this capacity to gain insight into the structure of that which is being studied. Because people naturally perceive whole patterns as they occur, actual awareness can be trusted more than interpretation and dogma.
Gestalt therapy is a phenomenological-existential therapy founded by Frederick (Fritz) and Laura Perls in the 1940s. It teaches therapists and clients the phenomenological method of awareness, in which perceiving, feeling, and acting are distinguished from interpreting and reshuffling preexisting attitudes. Explanations and interpretations are considered less reliable than what is directly perceived and felt. Clients and therapists in Gestalt therapy dialogue, that is, communicate their phenomenological perspectives. Differences in perspectives become the focus of experimentation and continued dialogue. The goal is for clients to become aware of what they are doing, how they are doing it, and how they can change themselves, and at the same time, to learn to accept and value themselves.
Gestalt therapy focuses more on process (what is happening) than content (what is being discussed). The emphasis is on what is being done, thought and felt at the moment rather than on what was, might be, could be, or should be.

It has only been a year, and the changes I have noticed personally and professionally are fascinating. In a very natural and organic way, I easily incorporated the body-mind link into my day-to-day life. Most importantly, as a person struggling with being present, the Gestalt educational programme has taught me to recognize and stay in the here and now. Apart from that, my performance in my work has become more empathetic and holistic. Additionally, I am now able to identify and integrate key concepts in Gestalt such as the figure, ground, and background.
Master of Science in Counselling Psychology
Through the process of education and practice at The Gestalt institut Sinergija I developed a novel view of my existence. Furthermore I have managed to take care of “unfinished businesses” and reposition myself in personal relationships. The application of Gestalt therapy throughout my personal life has equated to presence and joy in the here and now.

Personally, gestalt has helped me free myself from the burden of responsibility for the lives of others and unlock my potential for taking responsibility for myself. A remarkably good feeling! Professionally, gestalt are the waters in which I swim safely, with endless possibilities for creativity in connecting the human in me with the human in the person opposite me.
